Ok so maybe it’s still early days to do a ‘what we know’ but I feel the need to give you as much information as I have been able to dig up, which as we know is the whole reason I started this blog, because I am freaking relentless and ya’ll deserve to know the truth!….about sims…
BTW!: I know some of you have been wondering as to what happened with my legacy challenge – the idea was that in preparation for a review of the sims 3 in time for 4 I would do the legacy challenge with most of the expansions and stuff packs, I did it for a while and I’m going to be honest (sorry!) I got bored.
Which pretty much sums up the sims 3 for me in the first place. My Point? I got excited for the sims 3 , bought all the stuff (well, most) and played for hours…then i’d get bored, tune out and return to it days later, abandon my old character and make a new one and yep, you’ve guessed it, get bored again… I really tried but I suppose I am just a casual gamer when it comes to the sims 3, 2+ 1 I was ON IT. But 3 was hyped up so much it did disappoint me a little (RABBIT HOLES) anyway not that it was a bad game, it was a great game but I just feel that they left a lot of the great things about 2 out and could have done more with what they had, coupled with the extortionate prices for expansion and stuff packs ( MAXIS, I DON’T BLAME YOU This has EA written all over it…) well you get the idea. Having said that, I played today and had a fulfilling few hours building houses until my battery ran out ( >:/ ) Create a style remains by far the best thing about the sims 3 in this humble blogger’s opinion but here’s the shocker:
1. Create a Style – Has NOT YET BEEN CONFIRMED FOR SIMS 4
In fact Sims 4 has re-imagined how to build houses making it faster and ‘easier’ but better? Yet to be seen, I like building houses from scratch but as a few demos have demonstrated there is a new ‘choose and click’ or click and drag approach to houses and rooms in 4.
I know I touched on this previously and I posted a viedo of the new emotion game-play dynamic but I just thought we would revisit it in more detail for this run down.
So cranky sims huh?
I’m sure that these element will add to the story teller sims players but for casual and even strategic players like myself I have a feeling that these emotions will hamper progress in a big way – i.e. your trying to get your sims to learn a skill for a promotion but they are feeling depressed so you spend a bucket load of sim hours trying to make them happy instead of enjoying the game and doing what you actually want – see?
But maybe I’m just being pessimistic.
3. ROCKET SHIPS!
That is all.
I would put out for an astronaut – NASA – pass that along please x
4. MULTITASKING/GROUP CONVERSATIONS
One of the things I AM excited about for the new sims is the promise of more realistic sim AI IE (woah) talking in groups, a thing that most of us do naturally our sims can now do to where in the past although you could use the group conversation interaction it was awkward as all get up, now your sims can laze on a couch while someone walks by and can talk to them etc. awesome no?
Then there’s multitasking, sit on the sofa, talk on the phone and watch tv ALL AT THE SAME TIME! THEY’VE GONE MAD I TELL YOU!!!!!! But honestly its these little things that make a difference to immersion game play and I’m really thankful 9providing they pull it off) that it will save sooooo much simtime, anyone else tired of taking an hour to prepare dinner when your sims has a dozen other stuff to do as well?
Lastly on this subject – imagine your sims wants to go from A to B, but there are other sims in the way? This scenario literally caused dread for every simmer BUT FEAR NO MORE!, now, like real people, you sims can now glide between obstacles that they can actually fit through – THANK YOU WATCHER!
5. Create a sim:
Now we all know by this point that create a sim operates on a new click and drag system for faces and body’s essentially molding your sims like clay which I am also very interested in testing out myself. BUT did you also know that there are advanced options for each feature as well? Such as changing Iris size of a sims yes? This is a new level of detail that sliders just could not master in previous sims and other games. So Here I have included a couple of videos with create a sims at gamescom. Enjoy. Incidentally – walk styles and voices are a go – no word on traits yet.
So thats my round up of sims things we know so far, I hope you found this informative I will be doing an update around december time, unless the release a boat load of new information sooner.
BTW!: Here is an official ‘what we know’ from maxis themselves:
